The Greene County jazz band and Iowa State University Jazz Lab 2.0 provided an evening of good listening at the second annual Java & Jazz Nov. 12 at Greene County High School.
The Iowa State jazz bands are directed by Dr Michael Giles. According to Greene County band director Wes Anderson, Giles was so impressed with the first Java & Jazz last February that he reached out and asked if Iowa State could provide the guest band this year.
The high school jazz band performed two charts they’re working on for the South Central Iowa Bandmasters Association (SCIBA) jazz festival Dec. 10. The Iowa State band warmed up with an arrangement of “Transit” and then played a set of four arrangements by Canadian artists.
Giles complimented the Greene County students on their playing and the community for providing a beautiful performance venue.
Java & Jazz was a fundraiser for the high school jazz program.
